The Academic PhD in History at UFU’s PPGHI officially launched following CAPES approval on June 7, 2023. It builds upon a legacy of over 130 doctorates awarded through the program’s earlier structure. Guided by a concentration in “History, Culture, and Power,” the program offers three research lines: Cultural Practices & Power Relations, Languages, Identities & Subjectivities, and Territoriality, Culture & Power. It is staffed by 19 faculty members from diverse institutions and admits new students annually through a public selection process. The program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration via research centers such as POPULIS, NEHAC, NEPHISPO, NEGUEM, LEAH, LABCIAMB, and LAHTEV, and it is supported by critical research infrastructure like the CDHIS documentary archive.

How it is conducted:
With Scholarship: Students who receive scholarships, typically from Brazilian funding agencies such as CAPES or CNPq, and FAPEMIG are provided with financial support to cover living expenses during their studies. In return, scholarship recipients are generally expected to dedicate themselves full-time to their doctoral research and academic activities. This full-time commitment often includes responsibilities such as assisting in undergraduate teaching, participating in research projects, and contributing to academic publications.
Without Scholarship: Self-funded students, or those without scholarships, are still required to meet all academic and research obligations of the program. However, they may have greater flexibility in managing their time, allowing them to balance their doctoral studies with professional work or other commitments. It's important to note that while the program accommodates part-time engagement, students must still adhere to the overall timeline and milestones set by the doctoral program.
