The Postgraduate Program in History
The Postgraduate Program in History (PPGHI) at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) includes Master’s, Doctoral, and Postdoctoral levels. Its Master’s focus “History, Culture, and Power”, features three research lines: Cultural Practices & Power Relations; Languages, Identities & Subjectivities; and Territoriality, Culture & Power. The program fosters interdisciplinary dialogue through several research centers and labs, including POPULIS, NEHAC, NEPHISPO, NEGUEM, LEAH, and others, supporting scholarly output via journals like ArtCultura, Fênix, Espaço Feminino, and Cadernos de Pesquisa do CDHIS. Students benefit from robust infrastructure, notably the CDHIS archive with diverse historical collection.
Background History
Established in 1998 through University Council Resolution 07/98 and CAPES recommendation in January 1999, PPGHI began primarily as a Master’s program. In response to the 2017 CAPES quadrennial evaluation, a major reform was launched: adopting a self-evaluation framework, setting strategic goals, and updating regulations. On December 5, 2019, a new accreditation resolution was enacted, marking curriculum restructuring and strengthening faculty activities. By March 12, 2019, the concentration and research lines were redefined, culminating in full implementation by August 7, 2020.
Program Ranking: In 2022 the Program received a score of 4 from CAPES.
