Who is this program for:

The Master's Degree Program in History at UFU is designed for graduates in History or related fields who seek to deepen their academic and professional expertise in historical research. It is ideal for those aiming to pursue careers in academia, education, cultural institutions, or public history. The program caters to individuals interested in engaging critically with historical themes and methodologies, particularly within the areas of Cultural History, Politics and Social Imaginaries, and Labor and Social Movements. Through rigorous training, it prepares students to contribute to scholarly research and public understanding of historical processes.

 

Language Proficiency Requirements for Enrollment:

International applicants to the Master's program in History (PPGHI) at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) who are not native Portuguese speakers are required to provide a Certificate of Proficiency in the Portuguese language as part of their application. Selection process:

The selection process for the Master's program in History (PPGHI) at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) involves an online application with required documents such as academic transcripts, a curriculum vitae (preferably in the Lattes format), a research proposal, letters of recommendation, and proof of Portuguese language proficiency for non-native speakers. Candidates are evaluated based on their academic background, the quality and alignment of their research proposal, and their professional experience; interviews may also be conducted. Requirements: 

These are the requirements for the Selection Process:

  1. The positions are open to students coming from long-duration undergraduate courses (full undergraduate courses) acknowledged by the Ministry of Education (MEC). They are available for the areas and sub-areas of concentration and the lines of research in the PPGHI.
  2. Applications from holders of short-duration courses, associate degrees, and the like will not be accepted. Technical certificate holders will only be admitted if graduated from a higher education program.
  3. The candidate should present a research project related to one of the lines of research from the program. 
  4. Approved applicants must present a certificate of proficiency in foreign languages at the time of registration.
    • For the Master’s Degree Program, a certificate in one foreign language is required.
    • The languages accepted are English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian.
    • Certificates of proficiency must have been issued from 2018 onwards.
    • Official tests accepted, considering the expiry dates contained in them, include:
    • PROFLIN-ILEEL-UFU
    • Cambridge intermediate level or higher
    • Michigan
    • TOEFL with a minimum score of 500 for the paper version and 230 for the electronic version.
    • D.E.L.F/D.A.L.F. or other equivalent certificates issued by French universities.
    • D.E.L.E. (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language) from the University of Salamanca.
    • Foreign or naturalized candidates whose first language is not Portuguese must also present the following certificates of approval or they will be eliminated:
      1. PROFLIN – Portuguese Language from ILEEL-UFU(http://www.ileel.ufu.br/proflin)
      2. CELPE Certificate (http://www.mec.gov.br/sesu/celp.shtm);

The application by candidates holding a higher education diplomas issued by a foreign institution is subject to the presentation of revalidation documents and/or their equivalents. The provisions referring to documents written in foreign languages must also be observed.
